The Lake Houston community’s version of the Nutcracker Market is returning this year to the Humble Civic Center.
The Kingwood Women’s Club Holiday Marketplace was canceled last year after Hurricane Harvey’s devastation, but all is on to bring the festive event back Oct. 22 and 23.
The shoppers’ delight has become a local favorite, filled with holiday sights, sounds and smells. Last year was the first time the event hadn’t been held since it began in 1996. Proceeds from the Marketplace go to area charities.
“This year is very important to Kingwood Women’s Club,” said Clotile Berlin, the club’s ways and means chair. “We are looking forward to a very successful Holiday Marketplace. Our goal is to recover from Harvey’s setback and to make even larger donations to the 11 philanthropies we support.”
Berlin said that the Marketplace has raised over $1.1 million since its inception, for local charities such as the Humble Area Assistance Ministries, Society of St. Stephen, Project Mammogram and FamilyTime, to name just a few.
There will be more than 100 unique vendors at this year’s event. Attendees help raise funds for the worthy causes by shopping, ticket sales, participating in the silent auction and enjoying a luncheon provided by Marsala’s. Raffle tickets are also available for purchase.
With handcrafted jewelry, gourmet food, unique clothing for women and children, and home and holiday décor, attendees can make one stop and cross off names on their gift lists.
The event is held both days at the Humble Civic Center, 8233 Will Clayton Parkway. Doors open on Monday evening at 6 p.m. with the fabulous Preview Party, where attendees can shop, enjoy free wine and appetizers, and participate in the always-competitive silent auction – bidding on fun vacations, travel and/or experience packages.
Tuesday morning, shoppers can start their “shop till you drop” experience at 9 a.m. and enjoy a luncheon catered by Marsala’s. Tickets for the luncheon or Preview Party are $25, while advance ticket sales for Tuesday’s shopping-only are $8 and $10 at the door. Online ticket sales are available at or in person at Alspaugh’s Ace Hardware in Kingwood.
Kingwood Women’s Club is a nonprofit volunteer group of 150 dedicated ladies who, in addition to raising money with this fundraiser, also donate many personal hours a year working at local charities which benefit from the proceeds of this event.
